District 5/6 Championships - 10/31/2026

District 5/6 Championships – 10/31/2026

Course Length – 5000 meters

General Notes – The Reardan XC Course is new to our team. There is one significant climb around the half mile mark (and just before the 2-mile). Once you're on top, the course rolls up and down through the next 1k or more, before a gradual then steep drop down back to the start/finish area. The final hill is quick, and sets you up for a fast finish around the corner. The footing is mostly woodchips, with some packed dirt poking out here and there. Temps were in the 40's to 50's all day, with the sun coming out for the later races. There were a decent number of athletes in each race, and quite a few scoring teams which meant the competition was close and fun. Overall, it was a great day to race!

In the Girls Varsity Race, there were 104 competitors and 12 teams. LBHS won with 53 points.

In the Boys Varsity Race, there were 95 competitors and 14 teams. LBHS was 2nd with 62 points.

Quin – One mile: 6:22. Two miles: 12:48. Finish: 19:51. Average: 6:24.

Nice run Quin! In your third-ever 5k, it looks like you started to crack the code. Your first two miles were super consistent, with only a 6-second difference. Running with Luke probably helped there. Then, once you got to the top of the hill, you stayed strong and sped up a bit, with a huge surge right at the end to close out the race. Plus, your time here was really close to Hole-in-the-Wall, which is a pretty quick course. That's awesome! I'd say you're definitely in shape for hockey this year!

Tova – One mile: 8:00. Two miles: 16:04. Finish: 25:10. Average: 8:10.

Way to go Tova! That was a tough run, and you were by yourself for a good portion of it. Still, you stayed consistent through the first two miles, which is hard to do with that big climb right before the 2-mile! Then you dug deep through the rolling section up top while pushing yourself. What was really cool to see was how you used the hills to pick up speed into the final stretch, letting it roll! It's good to get on the course and give it your all, which you definitely did. Congrats on the great season!

Zoie – One mile: 7:18. Two miles: 14:35. Finish: 23:03. Average: 7:26.

Great race Zoie! I know you weren't super happy with the finish. There were so many good things that happened in that race! For starters, you were actually faster in the second mile, running with Madie. If your leg wasn't bothering you, I know you would have picked it up through the rolling section, and even more in the final descent. Think back to last year and how excited you were to break 23:00, which you almost did while not feeling 100%. That's an indicator of how much you have progressed in a year. Keep up the great work!

Silas – One mile: 6:27. Two miles: 13:11. Finish: 20:42. Average: 6:41.

Way to go Silas! Wow, what a season! You came in with only one year of middle school cross country, and then you found yourself running 5ks, which is a whole new ball game. Still, over the course of the season, you really started to figure it out! I know the past couple weeks have been a bit tougher than you had hoped. Still, you persevered through it, and finished with a great race. Keep that in mind as you move on to whatever is next. With a bit more time and learning, you're going to set yourself up for an awesome season next fall!

Madie – One mile: 7:18. Two miles: 14:34. Finish: 22:46. Average: 7:21.

Wow Madie! It's been quite the ride this season, hasn't it! Every race you've shown not just how tough you are, but also how much you've learned about running 5ks, whether it's getting up on your teammate's hip, or encouraging them to hang on while you go. I think this race was no exception - you went out fast, held on in the middle, then closed with everything you had left. Plus, you were by yourself a good portion of the way, without a teammate to help you along. That's not an easy feat, and you handled it expertly. That's another huge step! I'm so excited to see what's still to come!

Bhavana – One mile: 9:25. Two miles: 18:50. Finish: 29:17. Average: 9:27.

Nice job Bhavana! As always, consistency was your key out there. You were right on pace the entire time, which is hard to do with the different footing and the large hill right before the 2-mile. You were clearly moving coming through the first lap, with some great windmilling going down the hill, and you were moving even faster coming into the finish. You've consistently progressed year over year, and every single one of your 5ks this season was faster than last year, which is awesome! Keep it up!

Cassius – One mile: 7:26. Two miles: 15:08. Finish: 23:09. Average: 7:28.

Way to go Cassius! It's been quite the season. You've shown consistent improvement throughout, and even though your time wasn't as fast as at the league meet, it was just as impressive! This is definitely not a fast course, with lots of little quirks. Still, even though you were running by yourself, you stayed very consistent on the climb before picking it back up on the descent. And throughout you showed how tough you are, just like you have all season. I think it's clear that you've become a smarter racer, finding your pace earlier and keeping it going. That's the benefit of experience, and the good news is it only gets better from here! Keep it up!

Elsa – One mile: 7:18. Two miles: 14:47. Finish: 23:16. Average: 7:30.

Solid race, Elsa! You got out fast in the first mile, running with Madie and Zoie and putting yourself in a great position early. This wasn't a particularly fast course, but you stayed mentally tough and still managed to run faster than you did at last week's league meet. Looking back at where you started this season makes that result even more impressive. Going from crutches and barely being able to run in August to racing competitively just two months later is an incredible accomplishment and a testament to your determination and hard work. In fact, your average pace for this entire race was faster than your first-mile at Sehome. That’s a great illustration of just how far you’ve come this season. Great job!

Luke – One mile: 6:22. Two miles: 12:45. Finish: 19:53. Average: 6:25.

What a great race, Luke! You ran a very smart and controlled race, staying almost perfectly even split throughout the entire 5K. Your first two miles were nearly identical, and you only gave up a few seconds in the final mile. That's impressive pacing, especially on a course with difficult footing and rolling hills. What's even more impressive is that you found yourself in no man's land for much of the race and still stayed locked in from start to finish. You've put together a great season and have proven that you're a consistent sub-20 runner. The confidence and racing maturity you've developed this year have been fun to watch. Awesome season!

Maren – One mile: 7:08.

Great effort Maren! I know that's not what you wanted on the day, and that's ok. It's been a long journey, and you're still in the middle. There were a lot of really good things though. You got to run with your teammates. You made the right decision at the end. And, ultimately, you're set up for a better finish to the season than you would have been. Just remember, progress is non-linear. We're here for you!
