State Meet! 11.7.16

Liberty Bell XC
- STATE XC MEET!
Location: Sun Willows Golf Course, Pasco, WA          Date: 11.7.15
Distance: 3.1mi      Conditions: Upper 40’s to mid-50’s. Golf course runnin’. FAST!

Comments: Alas, please don’t confuse my horribly slow progress with this final XC update with any lack of enthusiasm for how we raced :) It was a pleasure — pure and simple - to have two complete teams and a full bus/dinner table in Pasco and we look forward to making this a tradition over many years to come!

GIRLS - 3.1mi. 5th place. 109pts.

I’m taking a less individualized approach to race thoughts this time — but to the girls as a whole, AWESOME JOB! Not one of you had even raced a HS XC 5k before the season started… and you walked away from this most excellent season 5th in the State! And THAT, is actually pretty incredible. Nerves were appropriately evident, but totally normal. You walked the course. You asked good questions. You warmed up. You raced, and you performed like you had done it 50 times before. Simply awesome! And even better, it was fun and sweatshirts were purchased! We will be back for sure, and in future years the team can craft with care some goals and destinations that are now soundly based on this year’s experience. With 5 freshman, 1 sophomore and a senior on this year’s team, you all have laid an excellent foundation and the future looks bright for Liberty Bell Lady Lions XC. Congratulations again and thank you for an excellent season. GRRR!

PS As a quick aside to just how fast these ladies are as well, the LBHS record books for performances at State were substantially modified by this crew: Athena now owns the 2nd fastest time at State, Ella, the 4th fastest, Icel the 5th, and Ava the 10th. OK. good stuff :)

NOTE: Great competition in Dist 5/6 this year, with these six guys making the podium at State!

BOYS - 3.1mi. 6th place. 166pts.

And for the boys, another fine year and the impressive continuation of Liberty Bell’s status in the upper echelon’s of 1B/2B State XC. That podium spot just alluded you, but the pieces were there and we made it close — especially given how Cade was feeling less than 24 hours before the race! A 6th place finish to follow 4th and 5th over the last three years is no small thing — and we’ll look forward to returning five experienced State competitors to Pasco’s rolling fairways in 2016! As two quick specific notes here, congratulations to Ben and Geza on the final races of their LBHS XC careers. Ben’s 16:22 broke is his own LBHS record for a performance at State, and Geza ran a personal XC best in his own first appearance at the meet. It's been a pleasure coaching you both!
