Wenatchee Invite (MS) 9/17/2022

 Wenatchee Invite – 9/17/2022

Course Length – 1.55 miles (2500m)

General Notes – The course features lots of rolling inclines with only one significant hill right at the finish. With the exception of some brief pavement crossings, the course runs on grass from start to finish. All middle school athletes completed one lap of the 2500m course. Athletes had lots of chances to be cheered on while running, particularly in the last mile of the race. The weather during the middle school races was cool. This meet was a bit larger, particularly for the 7th and 8th grade races. In general, Liberty Bell did a great job of not going out too fast and was able to use the saved energy to move up through the field during the second half of the race.

No schools had a scoring team in the 6th grade girls’ race. There were 13 athletes in the race.

Liberty Bell had the only scoring team in the 7th grade girls’ race and therefore won. There were 28 athletes in the race.

Pioneer had the only scoring team in the 6th grade boys’ race, and therefore won. There were 19 athletes in the race.

Liberty Bell's 7th grade boys’ team placed 2nd with a score of 48. Pioneer won with a score of 36. There were 45 athletes and 4 scoring teams in the race.

Liberty Bell did not have a scoring team in the 8th grade boys’ race. Pioneer won with 30 points. There were 43 athletes and 3 scoring teams in the race.

Cicely – ½ mile: 3:30. One mile: 7:04. Finish: 11:22, 3rd place. Average: 7:20.

Yay! You had a crazy awesome first XC race!! It was a small race but you still did an excellent job working hard, trying to find a pace and competing with those around you. I’m glad your foot is feeling good and I hope you had fun cause you looked stellar out there.

Zoie D. – ½ mile: 4:21. One mile: 8:52. Finish: 14:33, 11th place. Average: 9:23.

Congratulations on your first cross country race.  Steady effort throughout the race with a strong finish on the last uphill.  Your eagerness was obvious but also resulted in starting out a little too fast.  In the larger races there will be more girls around you but the temptation to start fast will be greater too.

Anja – ½ mile: 3:27. One mile: 7:01. Finish: 11:09, 3rd place. Average: 7:11.

Great work out there! You brought a calm state of mind along with a competitive spirit, which is a fierce combination. You did a fantastic job of not going out too fast and racing with your teammates when it got tough in that second half. I think your experience from last year and your thoughtful attitude will help you a lot this year.  A very solid, very awesome start to the season.

Madie – ½ mile: 3:32. One mile: 7:09. Finish: 11:21, 10th place. Average: 7:19.

You ran with the “fast pack” of teammates most of the race both improving your race and encouraging teammates.  You had an almost perfectly split first mile and finished strong enough to get a shirt!

Bailey – ½ mile: 3:58. One mile: 7:58. Finish: 12:51, 16th place. Average: 8:17.

What a great finish.  Coming to the last 70 meters of uphill before the finish Bailey was about 15 meters behind a girl who was sprinting hard.  Bailey kept up her effort and suddenly the girl in front of her couldn’t.  Bailey caught her just before the finish!

Rowan – ½ mile: 4:45. One mile: 9:36. Finish: 15:29, 25th place. Average: 9:59.

Nice steady pace the first mile and a tough effort at the finish.  As the season goes on you will even out the pace, or, as you gain fitness, be able to keep it up the last half mile.  Great first race of the season.

Owen – ½ mile: 3:32. One mile: 7:02. Finish: 11:09, 4th place. Average: 7:11.

Wowzers, congrats on a terrific first XC race! Even if you were a little nervous and even if your legs didn’t feel spritely the entire time, I couldn’t tell since you still brought a lot of excitement and heart to the race. Plus, you didn’t go out too fast which allowed you to find a good pace and compete throughout. Nice job!

River – ½ mile: 2:58. One mile: 6:05. Finish: 9:47, 1st place. Average: 6:18.

Truly, a fantastic start to the season. Your average mile is over a minute faster than last year at this race! Which says a lot on its own, but you also had to run this whole race by yourself, which is incredibly hard. I know you feel like you slowed down towards the end but I want you to know that you showed a lot of grit and mental toughness by not giving up and continuing to finish strong.

Kimball – ½ mile: 3:50. One mile: 7:28. Finish: 11:54, 27th place. Average: 7:40.

Steady and solid pace with a really fast middle half mile.  You looked strong throughout the entire race.  You had a lot left at the end and easily sprinted away from someone trying to pass you in the last 30 meters.

Orlo – ½ mile: 4:16. One mile: 8:19. Finish: 13:02, 33rd place. Average: 8:24.

Almost a perfect paced race with the second two half miles being just a bit faster than the first.  You faced some tough racing with large gaps between individual runners.    But your experience in running shows in the even splits.  In the bigger races you will have more competition all around you.  Great sprint up the hill at the end.

6th grade girls:

Zephyr – ½ mile: 3:35. One mile: 7:28. Finish: 11:33, 4th place. Average: 7:27.

7th grade girls:

Maren – ½ mile: 3:38. One mile: 7:04. Finish: 11:10, 4th place. Average: 7:12.

Ava – ½ mile: 3:30. One mile: 7:07. Finish: 11:12, 6th place. Average: 7:13.

Nina – ½ mile: 3:31. One mile: 7:03. Finish: 11:13, 7th place. Average: 7:14.

Freya – ½ mile: 4:26. One mile: 8:43. Finish: 13:54, 22nd place. Average: 8:58.

6th grade boys:

Kai – ½ mile: 3:44. One mile: 7:43. Finish: 12:20, 9th place. Average: 7:57.

7th grade boys:

Landon – ½ mile: 3:12. One mile: 6:24. Finish: 10:07, 5th place. Average: 6:31.

Wyatt – ½ mile: 3:20. One mile: 6:43. Finish: 10:42, 13th place. Average: 6:54.

I think you did an excellent job of embracing the nerves and excitement of this bigger race and getting right into the mix. And wow, your average mile is 30 seconds faster than a year ago, including a first mile over 45 seconds faster than last year’s. Times don’t lie and it shows a huge improvement. Not only that but I think your experience from last year is helping and you looked calm and collected in the beginning, which is hard to do in the beginning of the season. Awesome job!

Luke – ½ mile: 3:50. One mile: 7:14. Finish: 11:15, 19th place. Average: 7:15.
