JRH Meet @ Oroville - 3.10.2021

Oroville Meet – 3/10/2021

Distance: 1.4 miles

General notes: The course is certainly difficult, with the beach stretch and the hill coming just after the mile. The wind was very strong heading down the long hill but worked to your advantage for a good portion of the course. I do think the course is a bit shorter than advertised, but I think it was the same distance as last year for those who ran this course before. Our girls had the only complete team, and as such we won with a perfect score of 15 points!

Parents, I apologize for the lack of photos. I'll be sure to take some at the next meet!

Nella: Finishing time -- 11:36, 1st place. Average pace -- 8:17. One mile split -- 8:39.

Congratulations on your very first XC race! You ran super well with Samra the whole way and were able to kick it in all the way to the finish. After powering up the hill, you really picked up the pace for the last 600 meters, which is evident by your average pace being way below your mile split. Way to never back down!

Samra: Finishing time -- 11:37, 4th place. Average pace -- 8:17. One mile split -- 8:39.

For your first XC race, you seemed very much in control! I know you were feeling a bit nervous about the race going in, but you controlled those nerves and went out at a solid pace that you could maintain. This paid off a whole lot as you were able to pick up the pace after the mile and cruise down the hill to the finish. I can’t wait to see what you accomplish this season!

Zoe: Finishing time -- 12:33, 7th place. Average pace -- 8:57. One mile split -- 9:17.

You showed all your racing savvy with this one! By going out at a controlled pace, you could speed up the final hill and then cruise all the way down to the finish. And all of this was after showing up and getting thrown right into the warm-up! To top it all off, despite having two weeks of training, you were only 30 seconds off your time last year at this race. Way to keep a level head and still lead this team through a fun meet!

Greta: Finishing time -- 14:46, 15th place. Average pace -- 10:32. One mile split -- 10:43.

I know you had some nerves going into the race, but you stayed calm and worked all the way through your very first XC race! As the field starts to spread out, it can be difficult to remain motivated, but I could tell that you were pushing yourself the entire way through the finish line. You were super consistent, which is fantastic for your first time. Great job!

Layla: Finishing time -- 16:37, 17th place. Average pace -- 11:52. One mile split -- 11:36.

Just like Zoe, you had to jump out of the car and jump into the warm-up, which can be very difficult. But you handled it with flying colors! Then, you went on to run a super smooth and consistent race. You maybe went out a bit too fast, but that’s totally fine, because this was your very first race! With each race, you will gain experience and soon you’ll be a pro!

Tristan: Finishing time – 9:31, 3rd place. Average pace – 6:47. One mile split – 7:01.

Wow! You made that whole race look easy. Going out slower paid off in the long run as you reeled in those front runners throughout the last mile of the race, and all while running by yourself! You definitely showed your experience, and despite such a short training window you were only 30 seconds off your time at Oroville last year, which is truly fantastic!

Ethan: Finishing time – 11:54, 18th place. Average pace – 8:30. One mile split – 8:30.

For your very first race, you ran the most consistently I’ve ever seen! You got off the line quickly, but your mile split was exactly the same as your average pace, which means you were a machine out there. You even remembered to get your arms windmilling coming into the mile, and then you turned right around and cranked up that hill. That was truly spectacular!

Malloch: Finishing time – 12:34, 19th place. Average pace – 8:58. One mile split – 9:11.

The Malloch Kick™ was on full display after over a year. You really picked it up in the last half mile and cruised down that long hill. Then, when you could see the finish, you let it go. Way to lay it all out there! And guess what? You went 1:40 faster than you did on this course last year! I have no other words than wow!
